Filled With Useful Info That Travelers Use To Plan Their South America Tour

Somehow Colombia is still one of those unfamiliar countries that people have yet to visit. For those of you who don’t know what this Caribbean country has to offer, you’ll want to keep reading.

Colombia travel expert, Diego Silva, takes us through the 4 Best Places to Visit in Colombia.

1. Bogota

best places to visit in colombiaI recommend starting your Colombian adventure in Bogota, the capital of the country as well as the largest and most important city in Colombia.  Over the past decade, Bogota has seen an important and drastic development in infrastructure, which translates into a world-class cosmopolitan destination for tourists.  In Bogota you can find everything from the typical Colombian dishes to international cuisine along with traditional architecture next to skyscrapers – Bogota is definitely a city of contrasts!

Make sure to visit La Candelaria, a beautiful historical neighborhood in Bogota where you will find a variety of different restaurants and vibrant architecture. After spending a few days exploring Bogota, I recommend taking a direct flight to the Coffee Region.

2. Coffee Region

The Colombian Coffee Triangle is made up of  Pereira, Armenia and Medellin.   The Coffee region is by far one of the best places to visit in Colombia.  Colombia is known world wide for producing some of the best coffee.  There are plenty of different tours throughout the coffee plantations; all tours are informative and very interesting.  Besides the coffee culture – which you can literately breathe in the air – you can appreciate fantastic landscapes throughout the area, particularly in the Cocora Valley. I recommend spending an entire day in the Cocora Valley.  In this verdant forest you will see plenty of wax palm trees, the official Colombian national tree and one of the tallest species of palm trees in the world.

3. Medellin

best places to visit in colombiaThe next stop on the Colombia Coffee and Caribbean Tour is Medellin.  Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia and one of the most interesting cities to visit. Medellin’s unique architecture combines the old with the new.  Here you will see historical buildings next to new avant-garde style buildings. Medellin was also named the most innovative city in the world last year due to its civic spaces – libraries and art galleries.  This is definitely one of the best places to visit in Colombia.  I would recommend spending at least a few days in the city.

4. Cartagena

dreamstime_xl_12945685_opt (1)After enjoying plenty of what I would call the world’s best coffee, spend some time relaxing in Cartagena. Cartagena is probably the most well known destination in Colombia amongst travelers.  It is a romantic city full of history and waiting to be explored.  Visit the vibrant historical center and wander through the old streets.  The old “Walled City Center” is full of fancy restaurants and shopping areas that travelers enjoy.

Although the beach in Cartagena is nice, it doesn’t compare to “Playa Blanca”or Baru, which is just a boat ride away from the city.  Baru has crystal clear water and white sandy beaches.  You can either spend the night here or take a day trip to the beach.

If you are thinking about visiting Colombia and would like to experience the different cultures and landscapes of Colombia, visiting all 4 of these destinations will give you a real feel for the country.  Create your own customized Colombia Coffee and Caribbean Tour  and make your own list of places to visit in Colombia.   Fill out the form below and let our travel consultants create a customized Colombia Tour for you.

My name is Diego and I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. I have always been passionate about traveling since very little and when I turned 19 I decided to travel all around South America, going first to Peru, then Ecuador and living for almost a year in Santiago de Chile. While living there I had the opportunity to travel all around the country from the desert in north Chile to Patagonia in the very South, then visited Buenos Aires and fell in love of city where I’m currently living. Here I’m helping out travelers all around the world to put together their ideal trip throughout this amazing continent. My favorite places definitely are the Lake region in Argentina and The National Park Torres del Paine where any picture taken can’t go wrong.
