This month’s travel testimonial comes from Ron and Gisele, who went on a trip of a lifetime to Peru. SouthAmerica.travel consultant Jason Mayo worked with the Ron and Gisele to create a customized tour of Peru. Read on to learn about their trip!
Ron & Gisele’s Travel Testimonial
The Hotels 4 and 5 stars were perfect. I splurged a bit on this, but it was very nice at the end of a long day. The Scared Valley hotels were 5 stars and in Macchu Picchu, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite with a fireplace. After the 15km hike, that just topped it off. The meal that night was also superb.
Andean Explorer Luxury Train
The Andean Explorer Luxury Train was amazing, the wing back chairs made you feel like you were sitting at home, the trainfood was great and the entertainment of local cultures perfect. The 10 hour train ride was a relaxing trip and Carlos was there to meet us at the train station and take us to the hotel only 15 mins away.
Tour Guide, Carlos was very attentive and runs a tight ship taking care of everything and explaining how all of the transfers would work over the next few days in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, I would recommend him anytime.
Machu Picchu Hike
For the Macchu Picchu and Sacred valley part of the trip and hiking, Marco, our guide, was perfect; very polite and knowledgeable and was able to get us a front row seat on the train leading to Macchu Picchu. We were dropped off at the 104 km point to start our hike. He was our personal photographer on the trail and at Macchu Picchu and knew where the best photo ops were, we would recommend him to anyone heading there.
Carlos sent along a nice lunch in what I called my “man purse,” a handmade bag from the area with a sandwich, salad and personalized muffin for each of us that his wife made. We enjoyed this lunch on the trail while taking in the beautiful scenery. Carlos gave us the handmade bag to take home; it was a great souvenir and nice touch.
The Amazon Rainforest
In the Amazon we were met by Fernando at the airport who brought us to their office where we repacked to travel lighter for the next 3 days. And off we went on a boat to travel up the river 2.5 hours to Refugio Amazonas. That was the only day in 2 weeks that we had any rain, so we lucked out big time for that. The lodge was amazing and the room a real experience with one wall open to the forest. We had a visit in the room from a possum who ate a malaria pill we had left out, but no issues, quite an experience, and sleeping in the screen covered beds we did not have any bugs to worry about.
The nature tours, night walks and caiman search at night were great. The parrot clay lick was great and we lucked out there as well with more than 10 parrots all coming by to visit the site. Fernando was very knowledgeable of every bird, animal, monkey, bug etc. and answered all of our questions. The food at the lodge was great and the beer was cold.
I have a few people here at the office and friends of ours who are looking to go to Peru as well and we will be sure to give them your contact info and share our itinerary with them.
