San Carlos de Bariloche:

planning-a-trip-to-barilocheSan Carlos de Bariloche is located in the Lake Region of Argentina and is usually called “The Gates of Patagonia.” The city is in the foothills of the Andes and is surrounded by high alpine lakes.

One of the reasons why we highly recommend Bariloche as a top destination is the fact that you can get to do a wide variety of outdoor activities depending on the season you are visiting the city.

Bariloche is famous for its amazing ski resorts. And if you want to practice some winter sports, make sure you plan your trip from late June to September. This way, you will almost be guaranteed to have fresh powder snow.

If you visit the city in summer or spring, from November to February, you will find a completely different landscape. The mountains are green and the city looks more like a giant garden full of flowers of every color. This is the perfect time in Bariloche for other outdoor activities such as trekking, bike riding and swimming in one of the many lakes.

How to get to Bariloche:

Bariloche can be reached by land from Buenos Aires on a road trip that takes around 22 hours. The ticket price is fairly economical and gives you a good opportunity to see some of Argentina’s landscape. You can also reach Bariloche by air from Buenos Aires. There are currently two airlines covering this route. The carrier own by the Argentine government, Aerolineas Argentinas, and the Chilean carrier LAN. The ticket price is relatively expensive (compared to domestic flights in Europe) but if you have a limited time in the country and you rather spend more time in each destination, the air ticket is definitely worth the extra money.
