Whether you are wondering if Australian Citizens need a visa for Colombia or if Japanese Citizens need a Colombian Visa, this guide has got you covered. Travelers from New Zealand, South Africa, and many other Latin American countries DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA to enter Colombia. However, it is still very important you check with your local consulate or embassy for the most up-to-date visa & passport requirements.
Passport Requirements
Citizens of ALL countries: To enter Colombia, your passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after your travel dates. For example, if you are traveling to Colombia in March, your passport must be valid through September of that year.
We strongly recommend making copies of your passport. Keep your original passport locked away in the safe of your hotel and carry a photocopy of your passport with you during your travels. You might also consider purchasing a passport holder to keep all your documents safe.
Visa Requirements
Citizens of the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe DO NOT REQUIRE a tourist visa for travel to Colombia, unless they are planning to stay longer than 90 days.
On arrival, you will receive an entry permit (Permiso de Ingreso y Permanencia, or PIP) valid for up to 90 days. If you would like to stay longer, you can extend your stay once for an additional 90 days — up to a maximum of 180 days within a calendar year — by applying at a Migración Colombia office (for a small fee) before your initial permit expires.
Before You Travel: Check-Mig Form
Colombia requires every traveler to complete a free online form called Check-Mig both before entering and before leaving the country — regardless of nationality. Fill it out on the official Migración Colombia website between 72 hours and 1 hour before your flight. It only takes a few minutes, and having it done in advance helps you move through the airport smoothly. Be sure to use the official site (migracioncolombia.gov.co) — the form is always free of charge.
Visa Fees
US Citizens will receive a FREE visa upon arrival in Colombia.
Canadians do not need a visa but will be charged a COP 160,000 reciprocity fee (about $72) upon arrival at the airport or land border crossing. It can be paid in cash in Colombian pesos or with an international debit or credit card. The fee is waived for travelers under 14 or over 79.
