FAQs about South America Wine Tours

Argentina and Chile have the most famous wine in South America and it is some of the best in the world. In the north of Argentina, the area around Cafayate, near Salta is known for Torrontes white wine and reds such as Malbec are produced here too. In Mendoza, around two-thirds of Argentinas wine is produced and there are great options for staying on vineyards here. In Chile, the whole area surrounding the capital Santiago has numerous vineyards, many of which can be visited on a day trip and some you can stay overnight at. South American wine is not just limited to Argentina and Chile though. Southern Brazil is increasingly gaining recognition as an excellent wine producer and Uruguay too is an excellent destination for oenophiles.
The top destinations for food tours in South America include Lima in Peru and Buenos Aires in Argentina. Peruvian food is famed for its variety and excellent chefs take a culinary tour of Lima including some of the citys best restaurants. Learn about the four staples of Peruvian cuisine potatoes, legumes, corn and grains such as quinoa. In Buenos Aires, there are fantastic tours centering around grilled meat and wine! Brazil too has particularly good meat, served in specialist restaurants known as churrascarias. A food tour of Rio de Janeiro takes you to local markets and specialist restaurants where you can sample cuisine from throughout Brazil.
In particular, Argentina is famous for Malbec wine, a rich red wine. Many other wines are producing in Argentina too, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo. While most wines in Argentina are red, the cooler Salta area produces some white wine. On any tour of Argentina, there is plenty of opportunities to sample the wine and we can arrange special wine tours.
In general no, most South American food is not spicy. This is a common misconception often based on Mexican food which is very different from South American food. Sometimes a hot sauce such as aji or picante is provided alongside a dish but the dish itself is not spicy at all in most cases.
